BESA provides an academic community for all those working in Education Studies. See the website at www.besa.ac.uk. Three successful conferences have provided opportunities for the sharing of ideas and experiences across the sector. The fourth conference ties the aspirations of the Association with the celebrations of Liverpool as City of Culture.
Location
The conference facilities are centred on Hope’s campus at Hope Park, with ease of access to accommodation and parking. Location map:

Conference Theme: Culture and Education
The theme is interpreted liberally to cover all developments connected with Education Studies as a flourishing discipline. These may include:
- visions of educational futures
- international and global perspectives
- comparative studies
- alternative curricula
- new learning and teaching methods
- alternatives to schooling

Keynote speakers
Professor Patrick Ainley (Professor of Training and Education at The University of Greenwich) has kindly agreed to deliver the keynote for the opening day of the conference. |
Call for papers
Papers are invited on any topic related to the themes of Education Studies.
The conference is also an opportunity for colleagues to share their research or scholarly work and papers are invited on any topic which or theme related to Education Studies.
- An abstract of no more than 300 words should be submitted with the application form.
- If you wish to apply for the conference and submit your abstract later, please indicate that on the form.
- Abstracts should be submitted by May 21 2008 at the latest.
- Bring 20 copies of your paper, or draft paper to the conference.
- Paper presentations will be in pairs of 30 minutes each.
Contributions from students are welcome and there will be a special student research section.
Accommodation and application
Accommodation is available on the University site in en-suite accommodation. The conference begins on Friday 27 June at 10.30 and ends after Lunch on the Saturday.
You can stay on the Thursday night beforehand. If you wish to make a weekend of it and have Saturday afternoon and Sunday in Liverpool, then you can stay on Saturday night too.

BESA Journal: Educational Futures
BESA has a refereed electronic journal: Educational Futures http://www.besajournal.org.uk
The third edition is due out in 2008 and will include papers from the last conferences. You will be able to submit your conference paper for inclusion in a later edition.
